So Kirk is the worker bee while these two do this....

Kirk has painted so much Larry would be proud... I know that he of it because he finally let the girls and me help! But while he was working hard on Sunday this is what Kelly & Emily were doing... NOTHING! Kirkman painting away!
Kelly in her new purple room dancing...

Emily sitting on her butt doing nothing!

Our room with carpet... much better, huh!

Just need the baseboard, blinds, curtains, our bed, dressers, night stand and a new light and we can move in! We are aiming at this weekend, we really don't want to pay two mortgages more than two months.
Take note of the SUPER UGLY light fixture... who wants that in their bedroom... one more thing to purchase! Money goes fast when you are picky about so much but I know once we move in we want to LIVE in the house not be changing everything! So getting the work done now makes the most sense. I will have to work at least 4 days a week this summer to help pay for all of this and NO vacations for 2 years.

Kelly loves purple in all shades.... here is her room..

So she picked the colors and I said yes! I am happy I did I think the room is perfect for a 10 year old girl! Her is how her room looks with NOTHING in it. The colors really turned out great, this is looking from the closet.
In case you really can't see the color she has in her room here it is up close and personal! WOW it is bright and cheery just like Kelly!

Living room with the carpet... looking good!

The carpet looks a little weird in this photo but it looks good in person!
This is from the front door/hallway looking in.
This is what you see from the kitchen, the shadow on the right is from the flash and the door shadow.
Kirk is planning on putting the baseboard back on this week and then all we need is a beautiful mirror above the mantle and our furniture... it's just a matter of days now!

Living Room... messy but almost complete....

Picking out just one paint was tough!

We have painted and painted and painted, so much in fact that my hands hurt and I am hoping not to do it again any time soon!
This is how great the floors looked after pulling up the green carpet, I have to say I was excited but very sad knowing that we were going to put carpet over them NO MATTER what because the main hallway and the kitchen have fake wood (pergo) and Kirk & I neither have the extra time nor money to do the whole house and to put vinyl or something in the kitchen. So I enjoyed the floor for one evening.

Oh... what great floors!

Kelly's Room....

We let Kelly pick out the colors for her room. I was almost sure it was going to be a pink and purple room but I was WRONG... it is a lavender and purple room. I even let Kelly and her BFF Ella paint the room.... now I know most adults in their right minds would NOT let kids to this because they are messy but I figured life is SO SHORT. If they get a little paint on the floor they get paint on the floor, no one will die or get hurt and yes maybe the bland carpet has some paint but it will be a memory that will last for a life time because CRAZY Mrs. Huffer let a 10 and 11 year old paint a bedroom!
Notice the big smile on her face.... this is a happy kiddo!
This is how Kelly cleans her paintbrush by signing her name on the wall, BTW I got in a little trouble for painting the closets, I guess "real people" don't paint the inside, Duh. I guess that makes Kelly and I fake people, I think I missed that class in nursing school.

New House.... WORK

Even Rex has been up to the new house. He isn't sure if he really likes it, but he does like the coolness of the basement and the really big yard with out a fence.
Our first dinner at the house. Take out from 1-2-3 Thai. Emily was at a sleepover so Kelly had to stay with us and work. At least she had a great dinner. Take note of that ugly wallpaper in the back ground I am hoping Dad will help me put up bead board this week.

Kirk in action of painting the living room ceiling. So far we have the wall also painted and oh they look so good. The girls and I picked out the colors and it looks so good you can see two of the choices on the walls. Carpet will be installed on Thursday and new windows some time late this week or early next week.
Kelly was in charge of getting the cement in the basement sealed, man she got a lot of paint on herself. She even got a little paint on the floor, oops, Daddy wasn't so happy about that! She is a hard worker!
Kirk had just finished rolling the ceiling it looks so good, but his face is proof that he didn't have any help.
Click on the photo and you can see all the paint on his face! :)

WORK... WORK... AND MORE WORK....

Last week was a great week but a challenging one. Kirk has been working 50 plus hours a week at work and then on his 3 days off working on the new house. This was my first of MANY weeks of working three days. Since our new bigger house comes with a much bigger payment I have to work more. Kelly already told me she hates it, "why do you have to do this already since we haven't move yet!" Of course all the new paint, carpet, bedding, etc does not come for free which as a child she has forgotten. :)

I am hoping to up load some great shots we got of the process, the house is looking much better, we got paint on the living room walls and got the downstairs cement sealed. The grass is mowed and the hedges are trim! We are hoping to be moved in by July 10.

One of Emily's friends is moving to Alabama. (NO her dad is not in the military either!) So there was a going away party last Monday to say goodbye.

No brothers no problem.....

I used to worry that since our girls don't have a brother they would never learn how to deal with boys in a family sort of a setting. Well, since they have a few really good girlfriends with brothers I no longer think about that. Both of my girls have younger and older type of boys who treat them like sisters! I have never had my camera to prove that our girls can hold their own with the boys so here is proof!Josh, Emily & Noah. If you look closely you can see Kelly's arm grabbing Noah. Emily did NOT need the help, these two boys have NO IDEA how strong Em is because she wrestles them easy so that they aren't embarrassed to get beat up by a girl! See she is smiling!
I am thankful to God for the WONDERFUL families He has brought into our lives!

70 today!

7-0, that is a big number. Seventy. 100 minus 30 is seventy!

We are not big on gifts or parties but I do remember a few of his parties. One party that sticks out in my mind is 39, Dad was going to be 39 and Art Smith was going to be 40. So the wives thought it would be best to have a dual party. Glen Russel brought over his canon (yes a real canon!), and lots of people brought fireworks, food and booze. Glen shot the canon off at 10pm and the animals went wild: dogs, cats, horses and cows were all running around like crazy. Things were really loud all night. Around midnight people started leaving, finally around 4 am everyone was gone. I remember Jan thinking that she could sing, singing until the clock in my room said 3:12!

In the LATE morning I remember the yard being a total mess garbage everywhere some cars were left, people were too drunk to drive home so they walked or slept in the cars. It took a while that day to clean up the mess. But it is a fond memory!

Dad I am actually shocked that you made it to 70, I never thought that would happen since you have been so ill, and no not just in the head! I am thankful you are still here, our daughters have been truly blessed to have one Gpa that loves them unconditionally and is willing to show that in words, actions and your time. So thank you for making it to 70, I look forward to having dinner with you and the Bennett gang. Happy Birthday to you!

A wet, wild weekend

It rained everyday this weekend, I am not talking about Seattle rain, a little drizzle, I am talking about the kind you sit in your car for a few minutes before getting out because you will get soaked JUST on the way into the house! That is what happened most of this weekend!

We had made plans earlier in the month to head to the folks to have a camp out and have a big fire but that was put to an end because of the rain! This rain did not stop these crazy girls from having some fun!

Kelly & Ella out jumping in the rain... they were both born her in the PNW, can't you tell?

After 90 minutes of being out in the rain I MADE them come it. They were soaked to the bone and proceeded to get their jammies on! Oh to be 10 again!
