7-0, that is a big number. Seventy. 100 minus 30 is seventy!
We are not big on gifts or parties but I do remember a few of his parties. One party that sticks out in my mind is 39, Dad was going to be 39 and Art Smith was going to be 40. So the wives thought it would be best to have a dual party. Glen Russel brought over his canon (yes a real canon!), and lots of people brought fireworks, food and booze. Glen shot the canon off at 10pm and the animals went wild: dogs, cats, horses and cows were all running around like crazy. Things were really loud all night. Around midnight people started leaving, finally around 4 am everyone was gone. I remember Jan thinking that she could sing, singing until the clock in my room said 3:12!
In the LATE morning I remember the yard being a total mess garbage everywhere some cars were left, people were too drunk to drive home so they walked or slept in the cars. It took a while that day to clean up the mess. But it is a fond memory!
Dad I am actually shocked that you made it to 70, I never thought that would happen since you have been so ill, and no not just in the head! I am thankful you are still here, our daughters have been truly blessed to have one Gpa that loves them unconditionally and is willing to show that in words, actions and your time. So thank you for making it to 70, I look forward to having dinner with you and the Bennett gang. Happy Birthday to you!
